Nicky's Interactive Angry Birds Cake

Notice the shocking difference in the picture quality of the birds vs the piggies... The birds were photographed with an iphone 4S the piggies with a 3G.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Image
Instead of buying or making my hubby a Valentine's Day card I crocheted him a heart. hehe And baked him this super fantastic cake ! mmmmmm It's so good! It only took two days to make...No that's not an exaggeration. Most of that time it was just sitting int he fridge though. hehe I do have to recommend that if you do that cake you do about 1/2 or 2/3 the amount of "Cake" that's on the bottom. It sorta serves as the crust, and it's a little overwhelming if you have as much as I did because it's so dense. I also made this that was totally unrelated to Valentine's Day but fun nonetheless. I made this Beanie Baby Hat and put the rose on it. The lady who made those videos I linked to is awesome. I'm a total newb at crocheting and her instructions are so totally and completely clear and easy to understand. Hope you all had a good Valentine's Day! :-D

Nicky's Fortress Cake

Image
Well after much delay and rescheduling due to illness we finally had Nicky's birthday party on Halloween. It was lots of fun. I made him a castle cake with orange turrets (since it was Halloween) Let me tell you something...it's HARD to cover those darn towers with fondant! The princess castle that I made for the girls was SO much easier! Oh well! He loved it and that is all that matters. :-D The second picture is courtesy of my darling Lishy who is the most awesome photographer on earth. :-D

Puppy Cake Time!

Image
The reason I wanted to do a puppy birthday cake for Finn is because I've been calling him my little puppy since before he was even born. Nicky's Mommy's bear and Finn is Mommy's puppy. I wonder what the next one will be... (No, that's not an announcement! I still need to lose some more weight first. LOL) So I found this adorable puppy online and decided I had to try to make a similar one. Well...I've never actually carved a cake before. So as you can imagine it was somewhat terrifying. First I made the fondant , then the butter cream , and then baked the cakes. Yes, I use boxed cake mixes. What of it? ;) All the time while of course wearing my lovely apron from Apron Frenzy to keep my clothes from becoming completely covered with cakey goodness. :D I'm becoming somewhat of an Apron addict since discovering The Apron Goddesses . So once everything was mixed up and baked, I was ready to go! But I procrastinated as much as possible as I was horrifically ...

Happy Birthday, Kaida, Elaina, and Pip!!!

Image
I know three sweet little girls who are all having a birthday this month. Elaina and Kaida are turning 4! And Pip just turned 1 this week! I was in Hobby Lobby one day and saw this... The Romantic Castle Cake Set Well I knew I had to get it! I mean it's the cuteness! So I decided to make a modified version of it. It's kind of a cross between the super uber princess castle and the medieval fortress. So I've been working on it for weeks. (Obviously very slowly.) First I made little dragons out of sculpey, because every castle needs a dragon! Or three! Then I made ALOT of marshmallow fondant . Actually I made about twice as much as I needed. LOL Oh well! You can never have enough fondant right? :D Then the real work started this week. I baked the chocolate cake for the top layer first and iced and covered it in fondant. I tried to marble the fondant, but I'm not that skilled at fondant yet so I had to roll it so many times i just turned pink instead of pink and whit...

Fondant Made Easy

Okay, so I got the most adorable set for making castle cakes. Nicky's birthday party this year is going to be knight themed. Yes, his birthday is in October...What? I like to plan ahead! I'm also going to make a cake for Lishy's girls' birthday party. Not sure which version they want yet, but all of them have one thing in common. Fondant! LOTS OF FONDANT! So I started looking at how much it would cost to cover these castle cakes with fondant and I balked. We're talking like 50 bucks just in fondant. Which, I would totally be willing to pay if that's what the wee ones wanted and there was no other way, but heck if I can make it for cheaper I'm all about that! I had seen this recipe for Marshmallow fondant a long time ago meaning to try it out. I even bought the stuff to do it and just let it sit in my cabinet until the marshmallows got hard... I guess I didn't have enough motivation. :-D Well I tried it out today - with new marshmallows of cour...
