Still More Nesting...

Okay, the next stage of get these nasty carpets out of my house has been completed. The little bedroom, which was formerly the nursery (where my child NEVER slept), now has its new floor. :-D Bryon patched and sanded and then I laid down the planks yesterday. It looks so much better! The carpet that was in the majority of the house when we moved in was just downright icky! It was stained, and they were the kind of stains that no matter how many times I cleaned them with the shampooer they came back. Have you ever pulled up carpet? If not, you should try it sometime just so you have some idea of the kind of dirt that resides underneath it. This house wasn't even that old when we moved in. I guess the carpet was about ten years old but there was an ocean of dirt underneath it. It makes you wonder if they just laid it down on a dirty floor but surely not! So here are my terrible pictures. There wasn't much light when I was taking them. This one is the in progress pictures

This one requires a little set up… My husband was supposed to bring Nicky to the bathroom to have a bath after me last Saturday morning, and he said he was just going to give him a quick haircut. I said, "Fine, just make sure if you can't get anything else done to trim his bangs." (Nicky HATES having his hair cut.) Because he couldn't see his hair was so long in front. Perhaps I should have been more specific. Perhaps I should have said, "Don't shave my child's head." I did not, however, so when I finally gave up on him finally bringing Nicky, this is what I found… Not so bad you might say? At least he still has hair? Fine, you can say that, but this is how long his hair was before the haircut… I like his hair that way!!! I just wanted it trimmed a bit and his bangs short enough that they weren't in his eyes. So anyway…Bryon just didn't understand why I burst into tears. Before I started crying he looked very proud of himself. Lat

More Adventures in Rit Dye

So before we knew if Nicky was a boy or a girl my Mom brought me a bag of clothes that had belonged to me when I was a baby. Amongst them was my Christening gown. Cute, right? Aside from the big stain on the front. Doh! So I tried everything to get it out, including bleach, and that is the end result. So I thought...well it's not really wearable as is so I might as well try something. Now it's polyester and acetate so I had serious doubts as to whether or not the dye would take and it didn't turn to true color on the bottle but I think the color it did become is even better! It's kinda hard to see the under dress in this picture, but it turned about the same color as the lace. All and all pretty darn cute! Granted no girls, but we'll see. hehe

I had a craving...

A couple of weeks ago I had a craving for Red Lobster's Crab Alfredo, and no hope of getting there anytime soon. You see my husband has something against anything that swims. I blame it on the fact that he is a Pisces and he doesn't want to eat his own kinda. At any rate, he is none too fond of Red Lobster needless to say, and all my friends were otherwise occupied so there wasn't even the option for a girls' night out. So I decided in my desperation that I would try one of those fake recipes. This is the one I found. I have made it like twice since! I only used 1/4 teaspoon of Cayenne because quite frankly I don't remember their Alfredo burning my tongue, and that much sauce will actually coat 16 oz of linguine quite nicely. However, other than that it's almost perfect! So if you like their Crab Alfredo I'd totally recommend this recipe.

Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

I'm sure we've all heard that part of the poem before, but while looking for something that might tell me what the heck a snip is I discovered that it's actually part of a longer poem and some of it's verses are really cute so I thought I'd share.

Hospital Scam Artists

I was recently reminded of my extreme annoyance with the financial department of our local hospital and felt that I should share. There are actually two different incidents I would like to relate. The first happened two days after I got home from the hospital with my son. I was admitted for an emergency induction with him because I'd developed Pre-Eclampsia . (If you've never heard of it, click on the link. It's a nasty condition, and if you are pregnant you need to know the symptoms.) So I hadn't gotten to the hospital yet to turn in the Pre-Admission form and pay their pre-admission fee. So my phone rings and my husband brings it to me, and says he doesn't know who it is, but they are asking for me. And a little lady comes on the line telling me that I owe such and such an amount of money for the hospital stay. No problem. I mean obviously I was expecting it and had money saved for it. So I ask her to send me a bill, and she says to me that I have to gi

13 Random Things I Can See From Where I'm Sitting I know! So Creative, eh? Nicky, my two year old, who is sitting on my lap watching Go Diego Go. My new Gardenia Plant. Hopefully I won't kill it soon. A bookshelf full of mostly unfinished scrapbooks. Really need to finish Nicky's before the little one gets here. Or at least get it up to date. The Puppy Computer. Not that he'll play it. He's much to set on sitting on my lap watching Diego at the moment. A case full of thimbles that belonged to my Granny. A shelf with the unity candle, framed invitation, goblets, and cake topper from my wedding. Lots of pictures of Nicky. A carpet shampooer which I need to use on my rugs. It's out because this weekend we had a slight flood… I walked into the bathroom to check my laundry and stepped into an inch of water that had run out into the living room, the extra bedroom, and the nursery. Good thing we were planning on tearing the carpet out anyway…If you flush my toi

Nesting? Yup!

Okay, so I've gone through every article of baby clothing in the house and this is what I have for a newborn boy...As long as he actually is a boy. ;) Newborn to 3 Months Clothes 1 Sleeveless onsie 2 Long Sleeve onsie 27 short sleeve onsie 1 wrap around tee 11 footie pajamas 2 fleece blanket pajamas 1 tee 2 cotton blanket sleeper 1 bath robe 1 Halloween footie jammie/bib/hat set 5 receiving blankets 1 long sleeve preemie onsie 1 footie overalls 2 sets of gloves 1 outfit with jacket, pants, and tshirt (space theme) 1 pair pants 1 Tigger romper 1 jean jacket 13 bibs 15 hats So all I need for him are some pants...I wonder how I managed to have only one pair of pants for Nicky. I think I have the ones picked out that I want, and I'll get them after I find out for sure he is a boy. hehe Oh and I need some of those swaddle blankets that are shaped just for that purpose. Those things rock.

It's a Boy!

Image
Well according to the lady at ultrasound place, we're having a little boy. I'll have to admit I didn't see any really fabulous evidence either way. I'm not 100% convinced that what she showed us was in fact a wee wee, but she did check to make sure there wasn't major blood flow through it which would indicate that it was the cord. We're having our official ultrasound in about two weeks so hopefully I'll get a better view then. Until then I'm not going to be buying any new boy stuff. Not that we don't have plenty of boy stuff left over from Nicky. We don't have a middle name picked out yet, but his first name (assuming the ultrasound lady was right) will be Finn. (Looks like I need to go rename a character in one of my books... :-D) I went through all Nicky's little clothes this weekend and separated them into sizing and checked for stains. My husband didn't understand why I refused to put my second child in anything that was staine

Wish me luck today! We're having an ultrasound, hopefully to find out the gender of our little one. So if you would think nice unshy baby thoughts, I'd be grateful! Inspired by Jenn's Bucket List, I've decided to make a Thursday Thirteen Bucket List of my own. :-D I used to have one of these, but I have since lost it. So here we go… 13 Things Lesley Wants to Do Before She Kicks the Bucket (Hopefully Many, Many, Many Years From Now) :-D Sky Dive That's right my friends I want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Bryon's done it. He was a parachute dude in the Queen's Guard. I still think he should have been a diver then he could teach me. Which brings me to my next one… Learn to Dive I want to take all the classes. Everything from regular diving to structure and cave diving. (This one might not be the best of plans for me as I have an insane fear of being trapped in something under water, but hey I'm willing to face my fears, and it sound

Jericho Tonight!

Wooooooooooot! That is all! ;)

I'm a Farmer's Daughter! I should have some idea of how to grow things!

Now, I've always wanted to be able to grow things, and the idea of planting things and later harvesting them and feeding my family with them is very appealing to me. However, it seems that I have a big ole...hmmm what is the opposite of a green thumb? A red thumb? Anyway I have those. I am moderately capable of keeping roses alive, but only after a very sad incident in which I completely ignored them for an entire summer in a bed that wasn't lined with that fabric that keeps weeds from growing... Yeah, I didn't realize you had to have that stuff! I thought if you put down mulch it kept things from growing. My weeds laughed at the mulch and grew to waist height! So last summer my quest was to save the remaining roses in my bed and plant more. I did a pretty darn good job, and I think they will come back quite happily in the spring. I do need to cut them back this month though...*adds that to her to do list* I also started a nice little herb garden. Anyone can keep

In case of disaster...You know... Like on Jericho!

I was thinking that I still haven't gotten my emergency kit in order, and it is about time I start! I found this great site that is actually to create an emergency pack for your car in case of getting stranded somewhere, but a lot of it applies to a home kit as well. Rather than just the cheap pot he suggests, I think one of those little aluminum mess kits would be ideal. Like this one. You might even want one for each person in the family, because they have a little cup and plate in them. It'd be a lot easier than sharing. You can use them when you go camping too. When I got to thinking about how much you'd have to carry if you were...say running away from aliens or zombies or something...I decided I really do need horses. It's not just for my own riding pleasure. Really! They would also be the only reliable means of transportation in a major nationwide catastrophe. It's unlikely that their would still be people delivering gas after all. So here is what I

I got Nicky a Betta fish, which he has dubbed Nemo. It got me to thinking that in my life time I have had lots of different pets. So in honor of the inclusion of Nemo in our household... 13 Pets I've Had 1. A Hamster Named Chester He was a cutie pie, who became a wild hamster by mistake. He was very ill, presumed dead, buried, and later rose from the dead. Okay, obviously he didn't rise from the dead, but he did dig his way out of his grave. 2. Bunnies I don't remember their names, because I was much too little, but I do remember that the baby bunnies in the nesting box bore a striking resemblance to pop corn popping. 3. Guinea Hens These didn't have names. They are birds that are possibly the only creature on earth who goes from completely adorable to utterly hideous in the space of a few months. They start off looking like fuzzy white tennis balls with legs and end up looking...well I don't think I can aptly describe them. So check out this

Thank you, Sweetie!

Look what my hubby is getting me for Valentine's Day! Look Look Look! Okay, he isn't like buying the What's Kickin Ultrasound Studio or anything. hehe But he is getting me an ultrasound. :-D He's a good hubby. I'm so excited! Is it Valentine's Day yet!?
