Page 99 Test:: Blood and Violets

I got this from Madison Woods blog. It's based on the theory that if you open your book to page 99 then you get a good indication from that page of whether or not the book will be any good.

So here we go!

Blood and Violets - Page 99

“God, no!” She’d never wanted kids. Maybe it would have been different if she’d had parents looking after her for her whole life, but she couldn’t do it. Kids needed emotional support and a stable life. She’d never be able to give anyone that much attention. “Maybe a puppy, a cute one with a wet nose.” He looked so suddenly relieved that she realized what had him so worried. “Shit, you were going to let me go if I wanted kids weren’t you. Of course, I want kids. All women want kids. Cute, little babies with squishy faces!”

“Now you’re lying.” He actually had the nerve to laugh at her.

“Damn it, why do I have to be so inept at reading people. Baby or not I don’t want to be a freaking vampire!”

“Why?”

His question caught her off guard. All she could think of was that she didn’t want to be a freak. Alex frowned at her. Stupid mind reading! “Because I’m fond of sun bathing and chocolate and especially diet coke!” He raised an eyebrow and eyed her porcelain white arms. “Okay, maybe not sunbathing, but someday I might like to take up the hobby.”

Alex moved in close and laid a fingertip on her bottom lip. She wanted to pull away but just couldn’t. “You’ll still be able to taste chocolate and diet coke if you want to. Just don’t swallow, or it’ll make you sick.”

She shook her head, and he dropped his fingers from her lips. “Blood is gross.”

He smiled, and it was all sensual feeling. “I promise you won’t think so afterwards.” His mouth dipped forward to her throat, and he laid his lips against the soft hollow there taking her breath away, but suddenly she was afraid that he was going to do it right then. Her heart jumped to her throat, and she pushed at him, but he didn’t move an inch. Panic seized her, and she slammed her fist into his chest as hard as she could.

Alex caught her hand and squeezed slightly, enough that it hurt but didn’t do any permanent damage. Even in her panic, she could see the struggle in his eyes. “Marie, don’t hit me.” Suddenly she remembered what he’d said about losing control when anyone hurt him. Alex’s eyes were tormented, and he stood turning his back on her and walking to the other side of the room.

Ooohh, that's good! Now I want to read the rest :)

Thanks for posting your p.99, I loved reading yours.
Passed the pg. 99 test with flying colors.
Perfect. Definitely a win. Now, I just have to read the rest of it. (sorry, I don't know why I have such a hard time reading long things online. Maybe I will print it out? Of course, then I'll get a red pen while I am reading-you can take the proofreader out of the job, but you can't take the proofing outta the proofer)
