Thursday Thirteen #24

In honor of finishing the rough draft of Blood and Violets and because I need y'all's help with a playlist I'm working on for the WIP I might start next...

13 Songs from the Soundtrack of Blood and Violets
  1. Bitch by Meredith Brooks
  2. Theme from Mortal Kombat by Utah Saints
  3. My Little Town by Meredith Brooks
  4. I'm Sensitive by Jewel
  5. I Need by Meredith Brooks
  6. Dream Lover by Mariah Carey
  7. This Kiss by Faith Hill
  8. We Can by LeAnn Rimes
  9. A Taste of Things to Come by George Clinton
  10. Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas
  11. Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground
  12. My World by Avril Lavigne
  13. Building a Mystery by Sarah McLachlan
So that brings me to what I need your help with. :-D One of the next WIPs I'm planning on working on is set in modern day but has a little bit of a film noir detective feel to it. At least that's what I'm planning for it to have... We shall see if I succeed. I want to find some songs like you'd think of a sexy 40s dame singing on a stage in a smoky club. I always love music like that when I see it in movies, but for the life of me I can't think of the name of a single one off hand. So HELP! Pretty please. :-D If you can't think of any either, don't feel bad. hehe

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

Ooh. Forties smoky, sultry singer? I have no idea. I'm a metal head, as you well know.

The playlist you have here looks good -- a lot of Meredith Brooks. Is that a personal choice, or one demanded by the book?

Happy TT--

hehe I love Meredith Brooks! She's so angry. :-D However, she is absolutely perfect for this heroine. So I guess it's a combination of both. hehe

Oh, I can so help with this.

Fever
Near You
Little Girl Blue
I Wish I Didn't Love You So
I'll Be Seeing You (Billie Holiday's version is awesome)
Willow Weep For Me
The Bluest Kind of Blues
The Gypsy
Blue Moon
Body and Soul
Cry Me a River
Stormy Blue (again, Billie Holiday)
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
At Last (Etta James)
Am I Blue (Billie Holiday)
He's Gone Blues (Bessie Smith)
My Old Flame (BH)

Yeah, I like Billie Holiday. I think I should stop there. I like old music and old movies.

Go to Amazon and listen to some samples by Diana Krall.

She does some old jazz songs that are really sexy.

Like: "When I Look in Your Eyes" &
"Let's Face the Music and Dance"

You need to look up the Glenn Miller songs, or some of the Big Bands.

Ditto for Dianna Krall.

The first Norah Jones CD is sort of sultry.

love some of those songs.

I still LOVE the mortal kombat theme song. I have the movies. And I am PROUD to say it. Although I'm still made they killed Johnny and changed actors from first movie to second.

I love avril too

Add "Stormy Weather," sung by Lena Horne. Ann has an awesome list--I was gonna say "Blue Moon" but she beat me to it. And the ultimate, "Play it, Sam. You played it for her, you can play it for me," song from Cassablanca: "As Time Goes By."

Thanks for coming to my TT!

Don't know whether she's the right era - but Nina Simone singing absolutely anything she bloody well wants too, LOL

She was the first singer to jump into my head *shrug*
